Senator Film Verleih

Senator Filmverleih distribution arm is the origin and core of the modern-day Senator mini-major, ever since it was created 1979. The distrib acquires feature film rights and exploits them theatrically, the first link in the Senator Group business chain.

Senator Filmverleih ranks among the Top 5 of independent German theatrical distributors, looking back on a wealth of successful theatrical films over its 30-year history, including such local household names as “Manta”, “Aimée und Jaguar”, “Miracle of Bern”, “If It Don’t Fit, Use a Bigger Hammer”, “Werner”, “Complete Idiot“ or, in 2008, Andreas Dresen’s arthouse award-winner “Cloud 9”, to name a few local productions.

The tentpole international acquisitions are just as significant, including titles like “Chocolat”, “American Sweetheart”, “The One” or triple Oscar winner “Pan’s Labyrinth”, not to forget Stephen Daldry’s February 2009 Oscar winner “The Reader” based on the bestseller of the same name by Bernhard Schlink, and starring Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes and local shooting star David Kross.
